What songs would you like to see Spiers and Boden or Bellowhead cover???
« on: Saturday, November 24 2007 07:38PM GMT-1 »
Apart from the obvious, musically I love Marc Almond, Antony and the Johnsons, and Rufus Wainwright.  Marc Almond does Jacques Brei, and Rufus does Judy Garland covers.    I went to an Antony concert earlier this year.  Couldn't believe my ears when he started singing Beyonce's  'Crazy in love'!!!!

Hence my question

I always thought a few songs off of Shirley Collin's "Anthems from Eden" would be extremely groovy to hear Bellowhead do

I recall early Bellowhead gigs being finished off with an a'cappella version of Richard Thompson's 'Down Where The Drunkards Roll'.

I'd like to hear that again  :)

Cheers

Gosh, Nick, that sounds good - I would like to hear that.

For me, it would have to be the Pet Shop Boys' 'Rent' but 'It's a Sin' would do just as well.  There's something about the electronica stuff going on behind the vocals (stop me if I get too technical for you!) - I think it aches to be played on proper instruments.

The Pets make passable and pleasant melodies, but excel at the compelling opening sequence - usually loud blasts of the keyboard - that grab the attention and call people to the dance floor.  And then there's lots of nice stuff going on as the song progresses.  (Are you still with me?  Good.) Mr. S excels at the very same thing.

Neil Tennants' fey vocals need to be replaced by a singer who can take a song by the throat, give it a good shaking and then throw it down the stairs.  (As I say, if this is all too technical and jargony, I'm willing to rephrase it for you less musical sort out there.  Just ask.)  There's only one man who can give a song a right kick up the sit-upon and that is our chap, Mr. B.

Before you know it, they will be calling the Pet Shoppers 'Pop's Spiers and Boden'.

For a Christmas treat, how about a go at The Pogues' "Fairytale Of New York"? That could be fun...

Or on the theme of dark duets, Nick Cave's "Where The Wild Roses Grow"...

'Twould be fantastic!  ;D

Actually I'd envisaged Bellowhead to do The Pogues.

J&J to do a fine Nick Cave cover...
